Why I'm A Massive Fan Of Kendall Jenner's Nipples
Kendall Jenner didn't wear a bra to Monday night’s British Fashion Awards. Although, nor did a lot of it’s attendees. Except they didn’t all pair it with a sheer gold floor-length gown over nothing but a nude thong. This exquisitely embellished piece by 47 year old British designer Julien McDonald sent Instagram’s nipple censors into overdrive. The app deems the female nipple ‘inappropriate’, but as the most followed model on Instagram (with 100 million of us perking up an interest in her content), and posts valued at $500,000 each, Kendall gave the 1-billion-user social media platform a run for it’s money.
This isn’t the first time the 22 year old has confronted the rules. In fact, she hasn’t seen much of a bra in 2018. Kendall twice opted for a sheer dress at the Cannes film festival in May, and again in September to Longchamp’s 70th anniversary party, where she donned a sheer black gown embellished with the brand's iconic racing horse logo. Each time, her nips were blurred before they hit the ‘gram.
The elegance with which Kendall executes this look is, every time, exceptionally sophisticated. Never is it close to the ‘inappropriate content’ that Instagram’s censors restrict. It feels as though the platform is pre-empting the sexualisation of the female body, and Kendall is leading the way for that to change. It’s about time.
